What is the Mechanical World of Dr. Gearbox?
The Mechanical World of Dr. Gearbox™ is an adventure role playing game that incorporates education and learning into its turn-based gameplay.
What is the game’s genre?
This is a Role Playing Game that features turn based combat and incorporates education into the gameplay. We are taking great strides to ensure that neither gameplay, nor education are skimped on. Both the player’s spell power and the type of loot they recieve are heavily impacted by their ability to correctly answer questions during combat.
How much will it cost?
We plan to release the core of The Mechanical World of Dr. Gearbox for free.
Additional content will be available for download and may include additional Q&A packs, character and item customization kits, extra player slots, new characters, additional features, etc. A monthly subscription is planned to give access to all items on the ingame store for one low price.
How big will the game be?
The game will launch with 4 distinct locations called zones, each with their own variety of creatures, themes and bosses. Each zone includes 10 levels and in addition to the main story, side quests and challenges will be available to complete.
Additional locations are planned for post-launch.
Will the game be updated after launch?
Yes! We plan to do a massive story and zone expansion after launch and between that we will regularly update daily, weekly and monthly challenges. There will continue to release additional gear and Battle Trivia content, and we’ll be expanding into Multiplayer modes, Crafting and Player Housing in the near future.
Will there be online co-op or multiplayer?
Yes, we have plans to incorporate both online co-op, and multiplayer game modes. Stay tuned for more info!
What are you doing to make the game more inclusive?
One of our internal mandates is to bring awareness to both diversity and inclusion. We are listening closely to our community to make this game as accessible and inclusive as possible. If you have something specific in mind that you do not see please email us at email@example.com
These are some of the planned optional customizations that we are working on:
- Wheelchair Options
- Prosthetic Limbs
- Coclear Implant
Additionally, one of our central characters, Jessica Gearbox, is designed to help kids learn about D&I. Jessica was born without a large portion of her left arm and will be featured with and without a prosthetic arm during the game. It is important to us that people with disabilities are given visibility and representation in all media, not just games.
What about mental illness?
At almost 80 years old, Dr. Gearbox is showing early signs of Alzheimer's disease. We plan to tastefully work this into the story in a way that helps young players understand and cope with this very common illness
When will the game be made available?
Our Early Access release is currently planned for release in Q3 of 2020.
Can I be a tester for the game?
We plan on running test groups throughout the development process to aid in balance. If you’d like to see about becoming a tester, reach out to us on Facebook!
We’re active daily at https://www.facebook.com/flamehawkstudios/
Or shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
What curriculum will the game be teaching?
Our campaign questline heavily focuses on STEM workflows. In addition to the campaign curriculum we will be offering one off Battle Trivia packs that will cover as many topics as possible. We will also endeavor to incorporate new game mechanics that will give us different ways to deliver educational content as time goes on.
In addition to our content, parents, teachers and other administrators can add their own material into the game’s library to tailor their own lesson plans for their students and kids. Admins will be able to permission their content to users of their choice and will be able to observe test scores and trends across individuals and groups via a dashboard and email alerts.
What platforms will the game be available on?
Our current plan is to launch on Windows, iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch. We will also look to launch on Xbox and Playstation in the future.
